Sunbiz is the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations’ business-filing and public-records resource. Use the official Sunbiz website to find a Florida business record, access filing services, or locate the right state form. SunbizPro, the publisher of this guide, is a separate private business operated by Aurelian Advisory Group LLC.
Start with the task you need to complete
“Sunbiz Florida” can lead to several different tasks. Before opening a form, decide whether you are researching a business, creating one, updating its record, or obtaining a document. This small distinction helps you avoid paying for the wrong filing.
| Your task | A useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Find an existing company | Use Search Records, then match the result to the company you mean. |
| Start a new Florida LLC | Read our formation checklist before opening the state filing form. |
| Update an existing record | Use the state's Manage/Change Existing Business menu and choose the specific change. |
| Give a bank a state certificate | Confirm which document the bank requires, then review certificates of status. |
| Check a pending filing | Compare the relevant state queue with your receipt using our processing-times guide. |
Searching a record and filing a document are different
The official search page offers separate searches for entities, fictitious names, partnerships, and other record types. Within the entity search, options include a business name, document number, and registered agent. Pick the category that matches your information instead of assuming every business-related record belongs in one name search. See the state search menu.
For example, imagine an invoice says “Example Coast Studio,” but the contract identifies “Example Coast Design LLC.” Start with the legal entity on the contract. If you are investigating a public-facing name, a fictitious-name search may answer a different question. This is an illustrative example, not a statement about an actual company.
Save the record link and the exact entity name together. Our business-record guide explains how to compare status, addresses, and filing history without confusing similar results.
Sunbiz registration does not complete every business setup task
A state entity filing is one part of setting up a business. Licensing, permits, tax registrations, and local requirements depend on what you do and where you operate. Florida’s DBPR startup guidance directs business owners to check these requirements separately.
Make a simple task sheet with three columns: “agency,” “task,” and “evidence saved.” Put the Florida entity filing on its own row. Add any licensing or local requirements you identify on separate rows. A saved filing confirmation should close that particular task, rather than being treated as proof that every row is finished.
How Sunbiz differs from SunbizPro
Official Sunbiz is the government resource. SunbizPro offers optional independent administrative and business-launch services. You can use the state’s official filing options directly without buying a SunbizPro package. If you choose our service, review the published package scope, the separate state fees, and the authorization steps before committing.
Our educational pages link to the agency instructions so you can check the underlying source. They do not provide a government approval, personalized legal advice, or a guarantee about an application. For our ownership and editorial approach, see About SunbizPro.
A quick checklist before you leave the page
- Write down the exact task: lookup, new filing, update, certificate, or status check.
- Match the business’s legal name and record before changing or ordering anything.
- Read the current instructions for that particular document.
- Separate a government filing fee from any optional private-service fee.
- Keep the receipt, submitted document, and eventual confirmation together.
If you are still deciding what type of business to create, begin with what a Florida LLC is. If you already have a company, use the guide library to find the record-management task that fits your situation.
